Description
PeridexisErrant's Starter Pack bundles Dwarf Fortress with huge community upgrades - graphics, tools, bugfixes, and much more.

It's suitable for anyone - if you've never tried DF before, or played for years. For beginners, everything is bundled and set up for you; any setting can be safely ignored and the default will just work. For advanced players, everything is open: customise, add, remove, update, or replace anything you want to. The Starter Pack means you can spend hours setting up your fortress, instead of your DF install!

There's a thread on the Bay12 forums for feedback, questions, suggestions, or anything else about the pack. The second post has a complete table of contents, and recent changelogs.

Besides this official download page on DFFD, /u/Hecknar maintains df.wicked-code.com, which mirrors every release since 0.40.01! The final 34.11 pack is here. The final 40.24 pack is here. The final 32-bit pack, 0.43.09-r09, is here. The final 43.05 pack is here. The final 44.12 pack is
here. If you need an older pack or that site is down, let me know and we'll sort something out. OSX and Linux packs are available at http://dwarffortresswiki.org/Lazy_Newb_Pack

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download and unzip the folder
It's a bundle of portable apps; there's no further installation procedure.
The pack must be able to read/write files though - so don't put it in a "Program Files" folder.
2. [Optional]: Use this tool and the checksum on DFFD to confirm you got an uncorrupted file.
3. [Optional]: Upgrade from an earlier release by copying your old 'Dwarf Fortress 0.xx.yy/data/save/' folder to the new pack.
DO NOT try to upgrade by extracting or copying over an earlier pack.
4. [Optional]: Visit the DF wiki or my tutorials for help learning to play.

Finally, an appeal: Dwarf Fortress is free, and redistributable, because Toady lives off donations. You can support Bay12 Games here. Even if you decide not to donate, Dwarf Fortress is still free - and so is this unofficial pack.

Every time i try to download this, it refuses to finish and im left with a corrupted file. I REALLY want to, because i'm told this game is RIDICULOUS to get into, but CRAZY FUN. I was told the only way to get into it successfully would be to download this, but every time i try, it never finishes. I'll try it a couple more times, but if it doesnt work, could you email me the file not in .zip format? I'm FearsomeClarinet@gmail.com EDIT: yeah, its seriously not working, i have like 20 corrupted .zip files in my downloads, PLEASE, email the file to me in a folder instead of a .zip, i dont know if that would fix it, but .zip files wont even open at all if they dont finish, so i figure thats the best coures of action :-( EDIT EDIT: WHEW, finally got it working, and am working on my first fortress:). Epic game, i cant believe its completely free, AND is updated massively and frequently. And good job on the LNP, it seems to be very well done, it helps a lot to have everything right there, you should be all of ze prouds. :)

Well, whoever told you this is the key to unlocking the secrets of dwarf fortress, they're full of shit. I learned how to play on my own, pretty easily. Alot of people just tend to blow the learning curve WAY out of proportion, and say this is the most complicated game in the world just because the dwarves are represented with smiley faces. Although I will make a note on the download speed, for some reason it's slow as shit.

Be honest to yourself- the learning curve of this game is terrifying, regardless of graphics. I mean really, once someone figures out how to build a well, who's expecting the water to have pressure and flood the fortress? Or for gobbos to decide to ambush your woodcutter at that moment? Along with a bronze colossus showing up at the same time, while the dead woodcutter is reanimated by that necromancer?
Case in point; being able to easily understand what is going on helps a ton, regardless of actually knowing what'll happen or what can go wrong.

On another, more agreeing note, you really don't need anything like this to get into the game; I mean, they're nice and all, but once you get involved with the community playing DF, you don't want to have to admit to them that you're disabling aquifers, temperature, and invasions- although those are a few things that are useful to get rid of while trying to figure out how to feed the little pricks...

Hey so is there currently no added graphics packs? I guess I'll probably also have to wait for Dwarf Therapist to be updated in a new Starter Pack release :/

Nope, for r1 in DF2014 nothing has been updated yet. They'll catch up soon, but until the you can use the legacy pack.

isoWorld always reports that it can't connect on port 5000. I'm not seeing any obvious config options that I'm missing out here, other than it seems like it's just not running DFHack at all? Any suggestions?

This is normal when you don't have dfhack, since the connect function relies on it.

Odd that it's including a utility without a prerequisite, although I suppose that's due to DFHack possibly being delayed more than other package components.

Hello everybody,

I just registered myseld to this forum, because I seem to be too stupid, to get this game working. I tried this game a few times in the past, but that ASCI grpahics made me run away everytime, before I had the chance to play the game. I played Gnomoria for a while, but I am missing the depth DF-Players talk about.
Yesterday I found this article:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/06/26/control-dwarf-fortress-with-isometric-graphics-and-mouse/

and after reading this I spent my whole afternoon to get the game running with the stonsesense overlay and mouse controls.
I don't get it working. I downloaded the starterpack from ths site, just pressed the "Play Dwarf Fortress!" button, because I couldn't find the stonesense option.
A lot of people just say, that you just have to press CTRL+SHIFT+P and type stonesense overlay. But where am I supposed to do this? It doesn't seem to work.

Could you just tell me step by step how I get this stonesense overlay with mousecontrols to work?

Or just a link, when I was too stupid to search properly.

Thanks in advance
EM

The overlay isn't working with the big DF update at the moment, so grab the pack for the previous version and it'll work just fine: https://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=8687

Chrome is giving me an alert when I download this file. I'm sure it's a false positive, and I can get Chrome to let me at the file anyway...

I've fed the url (https://dffd.bay12games.com/download.php?id=7622&f=Dwarf+Fortress+40_13+Starter+Pack+r3.zip) to VirusTotal, which shows no threats. Report here: https://www.virustotal.com/ca/url/c84c46213178709b2aa17c12faed1071b87eaf7c38a94e298623dfe0043ed64d/analysis/

So like I said, I'm sure it's fine and just a false positive... but I wanted to put this information up in case it helps someone.

I'm looking into whether or not there's a way to report False Positives to Chrome.

Chrome doesn't do that by itself. Odds are it's your ISP, DNS, Proxy, VPN or the Anti-virus that are doing it.

It's a browser. It will yell if a site has a bad/expired certificate or an incorrect one, or does re-direct that seems odd. Like a cross domain re-direct.

Someone else stated that some site has wimbli.com blacklisted for some sites. What happens is someone has a domain and someone finds a virus or a 'bad file' and reports it to one of the sites that keeps track of such things. The sites often will then blacklist. and rarely if ever clear them. Usually you have to email the site owner and prove it's not a threat.

This is a sub domain. I don't know what's hosted on the primary but the primary could be listed as an issue.

Especially if someone owned a domain before you and got it blacklisted all over the place. Important thing to do before buying a domain is to check it's reputation prior to ownership.

I'm a primary Chrome user and I don't have this issue. None of my site advisers are flagging this (I turned on 2 that can integrate into my browser to check sites briefly then turned it off). So I'm not sure what is doing it for you.

I thought it was a little odd for Chrome... but I don't have anything in my extensions that should be looking at files. So I'm not sure what's doing it... That isn't really the relevant point, I guess... it's that the file is still being flagged. But your observation about wimbli is informative.

I'm not aware of the domain being on any blacklist; if you find anything of the sort, please use the site contact form to let me know. I went ahead and tested downloading this file using Chrome and it didn't give me any trouble, so I'm not sure what to make of that. I also did a quick search and couldn't find any other indication of the domain being blacklisted anywhere.

I've owned this domain for many years now and I don't think it was registered by anyone before then, and the main site to use the domain is this one. I use the main domain itself occasionally for hosting a few of my own files for various other projects and such (dev testing releases of some Minecraft Bukkit plugins most recently, and that was a while back), but all files I've hosted there are safe and not made widely available anyway.
So, if there was any blacklist of the domain for some reason, it would probably be related to the DFFD site here.

I don't seem to be able to actually change Pop/Child Cap any more in r5. I downloaded it on two machines, same result.
